Our Mission

Our mission is to provide psychological support that utilizes an integrative perspective of therapies that addresses emotional, social, cultural, spiritual, and political dimensions of the individual. We focus on the personal well-being of individuals with a person-centered approach to decrease suffering and maximize wellness. We aim to connect BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ people with affirming anti-oppressive mental health services and quality care.

Root + Yoke Wellness serves as a guide to provide psychological support that utilizes an integrative perspective of therapies that address social, cultural, spiritual, and even political dimensions of the individual.

What is whole-being care?

  • Whole-being care is a human-centered integrative mental health approach that offers diverse mental healthcare resources to deliver the physical, behavioral, emotional, and social services required to improve well-being and mental health outcomes.

  • Integrative mental health offers a new approach to treating mental disorders by applying conventional and evidence-based alternative therapies.

  • This therapy model promotes mental health and well-being by nurturing the delicate equilibrium between mind, body, and spirit through evidence-based conventional and complementary treatments and services.

How do we offer whole-being care?

  • We care for the whole person rather than a single issue or diagnosis.

  • We acknowledge that mental health outcomes depend on the intersection of many different factors.

  • We recognize the roles of psychological, spiritual, physical, and social health in overall wellness.

  • We leverage a wide range of resources to provide physical, behavioral, spiritual, emotional, and social support.

  • We aim to support clients with implementing better care, well-being, and mental health outcomes, all while honoring the client’s preferences and choices.

“I show up fully as myself because Jotina has created an environment where her clients feel safe to speak their truth. Root + Yoke Wellness is a Godsend and has been key to my growth this past year! Thank you for all you continue to do for your community.”

“Going to the retreat really helped to unlock things for me as far as my perception and my relationship with Rest and how I previously viewed it as more of as a reward for completing work versus just being able to rest on my own. Attending this retreat was definitely something that I needed to unlock the missing parts I needed to make me whole and functional.”

I open my arms, heart, and practice to journey with you as your loving guide, wellness practitioner, support, wise counsel, and friend. With over 15 years of experience in education, counseling, positive psychology and studying human behavior, what I know for sure is this is the work my soul must have.

In the past, I lovingly & joyfully practiced as a school based mental health practitioner in primary and secondary schools. My heart beats for educators, black mamas, and black & brown children’s wellness. I served as a guiding healer & support with the whole child, the whole parent/family, and the whole educator.

I am deeply passionate about healthy & thriving ecosystems in education, as well as mentally whole communities. I’m an advocate of body kindness, mental health care, life's play, creating safe & brave spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth in schools, and intuitively sitting with communities to help heal in the spaces in between through mental health care.

Over the years my soul’s work has manifested in various forms. I have written personal development books, hosted empowerment gatherings, shared messages as a public speaker, served as an educator, school counselor, and mobilized on-ground support for marginalized communities in need both locally and abroad.

Today my soul’s work is manifesting through listening and looking at what’s here now to help heal as a mental health therapist + yoga guide. Additionally, I engage in healing rituals, yoga + meditation, deep rest, sacred movement, unconditional love, intuitive counseling, sound healing, and being in life’s ease & grace.
